Video Avatar: Taking texting to the next level

Imagine receiving an SMS but when you open it, instead of a text message, you’ll see and hear a talking avatar delivering the message and sounding exactly like the sender.

This is now possible.
EGG, a tech-based company that specializes in mobile content and digital applications, together with NMS Communications Platforms, a division of NMS Communications recently launched a service called Video Avatar.
According to Mona Quiogue, Senior Director for Content of EGG, Video Avatar is the first service in the Philippines that allows users to send and receive video messages featuring either live video or a chosen avatar. The service allows mobile phone users to receive a message delivered by a personalized animated avatar lip-synched with the sender’s voice.

"Subscribers are getting more tech-savvy and they clamor for more personalized services. With this service they can now express themselves via avatars that reflect their personality," Quiogue explained. Subscribers can choose from a slew of avatars ranging from hot babes, cool hunks, cute animals and even seasonal characters.

Video Avatar is currently available only to Smart subscribers. Subscribers with 3G-capable phones can use the service by making a video call by dialing *8787+mobile number of the intended recipient. 2G subscribers with MMS-capable phones can also enjoy the service by making a regular audio call by dialing *8787+mobile number of the intended recipient.
They will then receive instructions on how to pick an avatar and record a message. Charging is R5/call.
Once the message is recorded, the intended recipient will receive an SMS with instructions on how to retrieve the message for free (first time retrieval only). Subscribers can text HELP to 8787 for more information about the service.
